The trip

Overview

Four nights on the coast with both halves of Goa covered — the busy northern beaches, then the old churches and quieter sands in the south.

Goa splits neatly in two, and this trip gives you both. The north is where the beach shacks, markets and evening crowds are; the south is slower, greener and full of the Portuguese-era churches the state is known for. You stay on the northern coast throughout, so you never repack, and travel out for a full day in each direction.

Airport transfers, a private air-conditioned car and both sightseeing days are arranged. The middle day is deliberately left open — most people spend it on the sand, though a trip to Dudhsagar Falls or an evening cruise on the Mandovi are easy to add.

Day-by-day itinerary

Calangute

The middle of the northern beach belt — wide sand, a long line of shacks, and Baga and Candolim both a few minutes away.

Day 1

Arrive in Goa and settle in on the north coast

You are met at Dabolim and driven up the coast to Calangute. The rest of the day is yours — most people walk down to the beach for sunset and eat at one of the shacks.

Starts from Dabolim International Airport, ends at Resort Calangute Bay, covering around 42 km in an estimated 1h 20m.

Sightseeing

Calangute Beach Open all day Allow 120 min

The longest of the northern beaches and the easiest to reach on the first evening, with shacks running the length of the sand.

  • Watch the sunset
  • Eat at a beach shack
  • Walk the sand towards Baga
North Goa

Forts, headlands and the string of beaches between Sinquerim and Vagator.

Day 2

Full day around North Goa

A full day working north along the coast. You start at Fort Aguada above the river mouth, then take in the beaches one by one, finishing on the cliffs at Vagator for the view back down the shoreline.

Based at Resort Calangute Bay, covering around 55 km in an estimated 7h 00m.

Sightseeing

Fort Aguada Open 9:30 AM – 6 PM Allow 75 min

A seventeenth-century Portuguese fort on the headland, built to guard the mouth of the Mandovi. The lighthouse and ramparts give the widest view on this stretch of coast.

  • Walk the ramparts
  • See the old lighthouse
  • Photograph the river mouth
Baga Beach Open all day Allow 90 min

The liveliest beach in the north, and the centre of the water-sports operators.

  • Parasailing or a jet-ski ride
  • Lunch at a shack
  • Browse the beach stalls
Anjuna & Vagator Open all day Allow 120 min

Rockier and quieter than Baga, with red cliffs above the sand and the Wednesday flea market at Anjuna in season.

  • Anjuna flea market (Wednesdays)
  • Sunset from the Vagator cliffs
  • See Chapora Fort from below
South Goa

The old capital and its churches, the Mandovi waterfront, and the long quiet beach at Colva.

Day 3

Full day around South Goa and Old Goa

South today, starting with the churches at Old Goa — the reason the state is on the World Heritage list. You then follow the waterfront past Panaji and out to Dona Paula, and end on the long, calm sand at Colva.

Based at Resort Calangute Bay, covering around 95 km in an estimated 8h 00m.

Sightseeing

Basilica of Bom Jesus Open 9 AM – 6:30 PM Allow 60 min

A late sixteenth-century basilica in Old Goa and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, holding the remains of St Francis Xavier.

  • See the gilded altar
  • Visit the adjoining art gallery
  • Walk across to Se Cathedral
Se Cathedral Open 9 AM – 6 PM Allow 45 min

One of the largest churches in Asia, built for the Portuguese and known for its surviving bell tower.

  • See the Golden Bell
  • Look at the painted side chapels
Dona Paula & Miramar Open all day Allow 75 min

A viewpoint on the headland where the Zuari and Mandovi meet, with Miramar beach on the way back into Panaji.

  • Views from the jetty
  • Stop at Miramar beach
  • Buy something from the craft stalls
Colva Beach Open all day Allow 90 min

A long, wide beach in the south — far calmer than the northern strip and better for a swim.

  • Swim in the calmer water
  • Late lunch by the sand
  • Walk the length of the beach
Calangute

A day with nothing scheduled — the beach, or an optional trip inland or on the river.

Day 4

A free day on the coast

Nothing is booked today. Most people stay on the beach, but this is the natural slot for the Dudhsagar Falls trip, a Mandovi river cruise, or a spice-plantation lunch. Tell us in advance and we will arrange any of them.

Based at Resort Calangute Bay.

Sightseeing

Dudhsagar Falls (optional) Open 6 AM – 5 PM Allow Full day

A four-tier waterfall on the Mandovi at the Karnataka border, reached by a shared jeep through the Bhagwan Mahaveer sanctuary. Best right after the monsoon.

  • Jeep ride through the sanctuary
  • Swim at the base pool
  • Spice plantation lunch on the way back
Mandovi River Cruise (optional) Open 6 PM – 7 PM Allow 60 min

An hour on the river from the Panaji jetty at sunset, with live Goan music and folk dancing on deck.

  • Sunset from the water
  • Live folk performance
  • See Panaji from the river
Day 5

Check out and fly home

Breakfast, then check out by 11 AM. You are driven back to Dabolim in time for the flight home. If your flight is late in the day we can usually hold the room a little longer — just ask.

Starts from Resort Calangute Bay, ends at Dabolim International Airport, covering around 42 km in an estimated 1h 20m.
